Product description

Two-day pottery and meditation retreat (in English).

Relax and recharge Welcome to join our wild clay planter pot — pottery wheel and meditation workshop at UDUMBARA pottery studio. Our classes are open to all levels.

The workshop starts on Saturday the 16th, July, from 10 AM to 4 PM, and Sunday the 17th from 10 AM to 4. PM

Osaamme myös suomea, tervetuloa. Vi talar också svenska, välkommen.

We will have a small group of 6. You dont need prior experience. We will start and end both days with 25 minutes of silent sitting (meditation). Meditation has been helping people find inner peace and balance for hundreds of years. To be fully aware, at the moment, right here, right now. Answer your own most profound questions from your "inner teacher." The key is to allow the mind to be and accept it, and please treat it with kindness and compassion.

At UDUMBARA pottery (est. 1994), you are submerged in a real pottery atelier with an experienced artisan/ceramic artist (Eva Spoof). She will wedge and prepare you plenty of clay to practice throwing. You choose four planters at the end of the workshop for the firing.

Saturday, we will throw pots, and Sunday, we will learn trimming and decoration ( stamps, engravings, we don't use colors or glazes). When you make pottery with Kultela wild clay, you dont get a planter pot; you will also get 100% transparency, local clay, a real piece of Finland. We use solar choice energy at our studio and kiln to reduce the high carbon footprint in pottery making.

Learning a skill and working with your hands and wild clay brings mindfulness and comfort to your life; at Udumbara studio, we are teeming with international professionals looking to de-stress, unplug, and socialize; with others.

Tuition is 185 €; The fee includes all materials up to 10 kg Kultela clay, guidance + firing of four planers.

We will have a "potluck" lunch on both days; Eva will serve salad + bread, and please bring one or two delicacies you like to have and share with the salads.

Important: Please register for your classes in good time, as class size is limited (just 6) and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Our apologies, but because we only have six participants, we need to maintain full attendance in all classes, which is why we have an exact and strict cancellation policy. Please, read this in detail before purchasing. Please note that you accept our policies by buying a booking with us as stated here.

REFUNDS AND CANCELLATIONS, GENERAL CLASS INFORMATION:

CANCELLATION BY YOU Cancellation by you with prior notice of more than four weeks from the session date will mean that you will receive a refund. We charge you a fee of - 40 € admin and a bank fee from the original workshop price. If you cancel within four weeks of the start of your retreat, all fees are non-refundable and non-transferable (for any reasons, sickness, etc.). Covid-19 Related Cancellation Policy If there is a new pan epidemic or other national emergencies, we will move the workshop to later, with no refunds. We will give you a voucher, so you can choose a workshop date that suits you.

CANCELLATION BY US: If we cancel your course or session for any reason, we will do our best to organize an alternative date within a reasonable period of time or give you a voucher code for re-scheduling. If this is not possible or you cannot attend an alternative date, we will refund the full purchase price.

GOOD TO KNOW: Please wear loose clothes and shoes ( you need to wear shoes); you're ok with getting dirty. Kultela wild clay has iron in it, which can stain light-colored clothing. Long nails can cause accidental gouges in the piece you're working on. If you have long hair, plan on having a way to secure it.

Like piano playing, the pottery wheel takes time and patience to master, and beginners may become frustrated early on. It will require perseverance, patience, and independent thinking. Silent meditation techniques are used to calm the mind and enhance concentration. Develop a "quality over quantity" personal meditation/connection practice. I will encourage you to challenge yourself to learn a skill and think about your values and sustainability as a maker.

Working with local Kultela clay is a "slow design," The studio's big pottery kiln is only fired a few times per season. It takes time and patience when working with wild clay. We will inform you when the planter pots are ready, so please be patient. We will not be responsible for any unclaimed pottery after two months of being ready, and you have been informed four months after the workshop. We will be happy to send your products to your home; this will be charged postage-free. We will send you a google calendar invitation for the workshop when the pots are ready.

Welcome and thank you for reading all away here!. UDUMBARA is based in Kallio (Berghäll), "the creative" district of Helsinki, just next to hip SAUNA ARLA and good restaurants or bars nearby for you to continue into the evening if you wish.
