At UDUMBARA pottery (est. 1994), you are submerged in a real pottery studio with an experienced artisan/ceramic artist (Eva Spoof).

Everyone takes a turn with Eva and has their wheels to work on. Class size is limited and will be filled on a first-come,first-served basis. Eva will wedge and prepare you plenty of clay to practice throwing.

The pottery wheel and ceramics studio, in general, can be a dirty, messy place. No matter your precautions, you will have clay on your clothes and shoes. Like piano playing, the pottery wheel takes time and patience to master, and beginners may become frustrated early on. It will require perseverance, patience, and independent thinking. I will encourage you to challenge yourself to learn a skill and consider your values in ethics and sustainability as a maker.

Learning a skill and working with your hands and natural clay brings mindfulness and comfort to your life; at Udumbara studio, we are teeming with international professionals looking to de-stress, unplug, and socialize; with others.

Working with local Kultela clay is a “slow design,” The studio’s big pottery kiln is only fired a few times per season. It takes time and patience when working with wild natural clay. We will inform you when the planter pots are ready, so please be patient.

We will be happy to send your products to your home; this will be charged postage-free.

When you make pottery with Kultela clay, you dont get a planter pot; you will also get 100% transparency, local clay, and a real piece of Finland. We use solar choice energy at our studio and kiln to reduce the high carbon footprint in pottery making.

Please, read this in detail before the purchase. Please note that by purchasing a booking with us, you are accepting our policies as stated here:

GOOD TO KNOW: Bring your apron and wear loose clothes and shoes ( you need to wear shoes); you’re ok with getting dirty. Kultela clay has iron in it, and that can stain light-colored clothing. You can easily wash it off from dark clothes; it is just mud. Long nails can cause accidental gouges in the piece you’re working on. If you have long hair, plan on having a way to secure it.

We will not be responsible for unclaimed pottery after two months of being ready, and you have been informed four months after the workshop. We will send you a Google calendar invitation for the workshop, and when the pots are ready.

Thank You, and Welcome to UDUMBARA!
