Product description

Welcome to our wild clay planter pot—intensive pottery wheel workshop at UDUMBARA studio. The workshop starts at 11 AM and ends at 1.45 PM with the cleanup.

At UDUMBARA pottery (est. 1994), you are submerged in a real pottery studio with an experienced artisan/ceramic artist (Eva Spoof).

Osaamme myös suomea, tervetuloa. Vi talar också svenska, välkommen.

Working with your hands with wild clay brings mindfulness and comfort to your life; at Udumbara studio, we are looking to de-stress, unplug, and socialize; with others.

Our classes are open to all levels for adults and (14 +) teens. Tuition includes; all materials up to 6 kg Kultela clay, guidance + planter pot trimming, cleaning, and firing for two vessels per person + 24 % VAT.

Class size is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. We will wedge and prepare plenty of clay to practice throwing, and everyone takes a turn with Eva and has their wheels to work on.

Pottery invites us to release expectations and attachments. When we release these energies, we release judgment and perfectionism and focus less on the outcome, allowing us to be more present and enjoy the amazing grounding touch of Kultela wild clay and the process!

We practice pottery and letting go. Eva will also encourage you to challenge yourself to learn and consider your values in ethics and sustainability as a maker. When you make pottery with Kultela clay, you dont get just a planter pot; you will also get 100% transparency, local clay, and a real piece of Finland. We use solar choice energy at our studio and kiln to reduce the high carbon footprint in pottery making.

As an artist-run artist-operated pottery studio, we minimize administrative work. And as we only have seven participants in the workshop. We need to maintain full attendance in all classes, which is why we have an exact cancellation policy.

GOOD TO KNOW:

Please, wear loose clothes and shoes ( you need to wear shoes); you're ok with getting dirty. Kultela clay has iron in it, and that can stain light-colored clothing. You can easily wash it off from dark clothes; it is just mud. Long nails can cause accidental gouges in the piece you're working on. With artificial nails, it is challenging to do pottery. If you have long hair, plan on having a way to secure it.

Like piano playing, the pottery wheel takes time and patience to master, and beginners may become frustrated early on. It will require perseverance, patience, and independent thinking. But it is fun!

We make planter pots, as wild clay is ideally suited for it. Also, the first pottery experiments are usually a bit wonky and small but look cute when you plant something on them.

Working with local Kultela clay is a "slow design," The studio's big pottery kiln is only fired a few times per season. It takes time and patience when working with wild natural clay. There will be disappointments; that is part of pottery making.

We will inform (by sending a Google calendar message ) you when the planter pots are ready. Please be patient. We will be happy to ship your products to your home; this will be charged postage-free.

Thank You for reading all the way here, and Welcome to UDUMBARA!
