This class combines the stimulation of acupuncture or acupressure points during a yin yoga class. Students have the choice between acupuncture or acupressure. The first, small needles are used, the second, only pressure is applied to the points. In order to achieve a prolonged effect, ear seeds (small sticky seeds) are applied to the ear and may be left on the ear for many days for further stimulation. Your health concerns will be taken into account at the beginning of class to understand what are the best as safest points to stimulate.
Yin yoga joins the insights gained by thousands of years of acupuncture practice to the wisdom of yoga. Yin yoga is the slow, deep practice of mostly floor postures that stretch, stimulate and heal the joints of the hips and spine. Yin yoga is quiet, restful, deep, and inward-looking. One theory is that the acupuncture meridians are located within the connective tissues of the body. Thus, any exercise such as yin yoga which targets the connective tissues, can help with the flow of qi. Acupuncture seeks to free up the flow of qi by stimulating the meridians directly. By gently stimulating acupuncture meridians we believe that we are adding to the great benefits of yin yoga.
