NOTE: This event will be mostly in English, but also Finnish is used if needed. :) Mushrooms are rising up with full power and it is time to get to know more of them! Welcome onto a basic course for you who wants to know more about edible mushrooms in Finland and how to recognize, pick and use them. In this field trip you´ll learn more about the delicious culinary treasures of the nearby forests and your mushroom-hawk-eye will definitely sharpen. Expect to be surprised how exotic mushrooms of the forest can be! We will focus on edible mushrooms and their look-a-likes and to the ones you should be aware of: the toxic species. Next to Rastila metro station is the Rastila forest area, which is a well-preserved green area in many places, hidden from construction. The forest is also a high-quality habitat for mushrooms, whose growing season is at its best in September. The forest's grove-like and spruce and pine dominated environments offer a variety of places for mushrooms to grow. Map to the forest area. The focus is on safety and the trip will be on relatively easy terrain. Meeting point: West end of Märssykuja, intersection of the outdoor trail (Märssykuja 2) Time: 12:30-15. We will return to the same point after the tour. Mushroom knife, mushroom basket and mushroom book, if available. You can borrow a few mushroom baskets and knives from me. Let me know in advance if you want to borrow one. A cardboard bag is also a convenient way to transport the edible mushrooms home. Note-taking tools and a camera can help you record your learnings on site. Bring a water bottle and snacks.
