Foraging and Paper-Making Workshop
Connecting Ancestry, Nature, and Art – Foraging and Paper-Making with Roberta Lima & Anna Nyman
Join us on October 12th from 12:00 to 16:00 for an inspiring workshop led by artist Roberta Lima, an Austrian-Brazilian creator born in Manaus, the heart of the Amazon. Roberta’s artistic practice is deeply rooted in her migration journey, constantly circling between the hemispheres and worlds—connecting the rich cosmologies of Brazil with her new home in Finland.
This workshop is a continuation of Roberta’s exploration of nature and ancestry, inspired by her recent research travels through the Amazon, where she studied indigenous materials and techniques. Together with biologist and wild food specialist Anna Nyman, they invite you to a hands-on experience where you will:
Forage for mushrooms in the forest (about 1.5 hours), discovering these fascinating fungi as a resource for pigments and material sources.
Create natural pigments from wild sources, exploring how to produce colors for paper and art projects.
Make paper using these pigments and natural materials, connecting traditional knowledge with artistic expression.
All materials will be provided.
We recommend bringing your own rubber gloves and clothes than can be—especially if you have allergies or sensitivities to textures or pigments—as handling natural dyes and ink can stain nails. Please also wear comfortable clothes that can get dirty, as activities involve working with natural materials and pigments.
The workshop will include:
Guided foraging in a nearby natural site.
Creative sessions on making handmade paper and experimenting with natural colors.
An inspiring exchange of ideas about nature, ancestry, and art.
This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature’s resources, explore ancestral arts, and develop your own creative practice.
We look forward to creating, exploring, and sharing this unique experience with you!

About the hosts:
Roberta Lima
Roberta Lima is an Austrian Brazilian artist, born in Manaus, Amazon.
Roberta’s history of migration and constantly circling around south and north hemispheres, inspired creative practices that connect the cosmologies of her homeland Brazil to the country she chose to live in: Finland.
In 2020 Roberta took part in a foraging workshop with Anna for the first time. They kept in contact and a friendship grew out of their common interests in nature and in finding more resourceful ways of living.
In the years 2023 and 2024, Roberta spent months in Brazil travelling through the Amazon to research her ancestry.
Giving continuation to what she learned with Anna in Finland, Roberta immersed herself in the Amazon forest, researched local materials and indigenous technologies to produce works of art that turn increasingly to nature and ancestry as sources of inspiration.
