Wataru Ohashi syntyi vuonna 1944 lähellä Hiroshimaa Japanissa. Hän oli sairaalloinen lapsi, mutta muinaiset japanilaiset parannustekniikat tekivät hänet terveeksi. Aikuisena hän omistautui näiden metodien opettamiselle ja perusti Ohashi-instituutin saavuttuaan 1970-luvun alussa Yhdysvaltoihin.
