Sekou Heru is a legendary NYC house dance pioneer. His imprint in house dance as a dance form is remarkable to say the least and his teaching goes deep into the layers of the culture and the lived experiences that birthed house dance.

Class description:

Sekou’s workshop is an open level introduction to Rhythm Metrics Housedance Method. Throughout this class students will explore basic body mechanics and dynamics along with footwork foundation patterns and body awareness techniques. These techniques will be initiated non-verbally to help the participants to embody the essence of the dance as an interactive language and emotional expression. Students will learn movements they can practically apply and review while focusing on using the body as an instrument allowing them to be able to eventually use the foundation movements freely. Students will be learning the function of the dance as an interactive language, eventually to be used for personal practice, party or performance.

These classes are open level and therefore for anyone regardless of your experience in house dance.
