In Basics of B&W Printing, taught by Denny Syed, Mörk’s darkroom manager, participants will learn the basics of silver gelatin printing, i.e. black-and-white darkroom printing.
You can join the workshop even if you have never printed a photograph in a darkroom or have completely forgotten how.
Day 1: Introduction to theory and practice, evaluating negatives, and a printing demonstration.
Day 2: Participants make their own prints on RC paper under the instructor’s guidance.
Both days run from 10:00 to 17:00.
The workshop is taught in English. An instruction booklet to take home is provided.
The workshop is limited to 7 participants.
RC paper, chemicals, and other necessary equipment are provided.
All participants will have the opportunity to make multiple prints during the workshop.
Participants should bring one or more of their own black-and-white negatives to print from, preferably with a normal or neutral contrast. However, this is not a requirement for participation, as there will also be negatives available at the darkroom.
Make prints on RC paper from black-and-white negatives.
Understand the basic process and the materials needed for silver gelatin printing.
Understand the basics of the history and technique of silver gelatin printing.
The workshop does not include film development.
Fiber-based paper printing will be demonstrated on Day 1, but participants will make their own prints on RC paper.
Denny Syed (b. 1987) is a photographer originally from the Netherlands and currently based in Helsinki, Finland. He primarily works with medium-format cameras. He is the darkroom manager at Mörk and has more than 15 years of experience in silver gelatin printing.

Registration is binding.
The workshop will take place if there are at least four participants.
You will receive a full refund if you cancel at least 14 days before the workshop.
If you cancel less than 14 days before the workshop, you will receive a 50% refund of the workshop fee.
If the workshop is cancelled by the organizer, you will receive a full refund. This also applies if the workshop has to be cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control, such as illness of the instructor or an insufficient number of participants.
