“Bae’s Colorful Scissors series is both the fruit of her fascination with collage and a thoughtful reflection on the creative energy of migrant life.“ Musée Magazine

Jooeun Bae is a Korean collage-photographer. She moved independently to the United States to study for a decade at the age of 15. There, she was met by a new culture, which easily embedded itself within the young artist. She, therefore, formed a harmonious sense of self which mixed her Korean human nature with the American culture. While the artist was growing up, she was fascinated by the idea of making one thing through mixing multiple elements. Collage is, thus, an essential method that allows Jooeun Bae to combine her differing imaginations. Moreover, the collage format creates unique characters of subjects that she photographs. She also enjoys the process of shooting each element separately and, later, putting them together. For these reasons she has chosen to be a collage-photographer among various specialties in photography.

Bae graduated from the International Center of Photography in New York in 2019 and has since had her work published by PhotoVogue, TIME, The Atlantic, and Refinery 29, and has been featured in the longlist for Foam Talent Call 2021, Exposure Photography Festival 2021, and exhibited at Helsinki Photo Festival 2021. Since then she has been showcased in galleries in Australia, USA, India, France, Germany and more countries. In 2024, she will be exhibited at the Rotterdam Photo Festival in the Netherlands.
