Svante Gullichsen is fearless. He finds comfort in dangerous situations. It makes his body’s full alertness feel justified. Many of his works are self-portraits, while a number of new masterpieces involve more participants to engage viewers to his art depicting his reflections on personal processes he is dealing with and what makes him feel alive being an fearless artist. Wishes from Below is a self-portrait.

Emerging brave talent Gullichsen’s second solo exhibition “Fearless” was displayed at the Nordic Village 2021 in the Art park at Hanaholmen Swedish-Finnish Cultural Centre and seen from over thousand specatators. All images were new creations made during the winter season of 2020 in Lapland to the spring period of 2021 on the Jurmo Island and Porvoo. Curated by Rafael Rybczynski.

Gullichsen often depicts the challenges of the human mind through nature. The naked human body in the middle of the forest looks natural and strange: soft skin against hard rock. He is interested in the contradiction between man and nature, Gullichsen tries to find a perfect harmony between himself and the raw forest environment. The Finnish archipelago is a never-ending source of inspiration for him, and most of his work he created in the Porvoo archipelago.

Svante Gullichsen (b.1994) is a photographer living and working in Helsinki, Finland. He is an auto-didact artist. His works have been shocased in several group exhibitions, including at the Amos Anderson Art Museum in Helsinki and the Jyväskylä Art Museum, and at the Helsinki Photo Festival, he won the Best Photo Award 2019. His first solo exhibition was held at the Photography Centre Nykyaika in Tampere in 2021.

In 2022, he was chosen for two exhibitions in Dresden (Germany) at the Hellerau – European Centre for the Arts. as a finalist in the Hellerau portraits competition, and as winner of the residency prize.

Currently, he is preparing for upcoming new solo exhibitions at Fotografiska Tallin (Estonia); Galleria Herder in Hague (Netherlands); Albumen Gallery in London (United Kingdom); and Goyki 3 Art Incubator at the 10th edition of photo festival FFWRS “Within the Frame of Sopot” in Poland.
