Ómar Sverrisson (b. 1977) is a freelance photographer and visual artist living and working in Reykjavik, Iceland. His work spans from film design and photographic work for Icelandic music bands to editorial and visual advertising content for a number of newspapers and popular magazines in Denmark and Iceland. Omar Sverisson’s portraits series Reykjavik portraits enjoy cult status among the Scandinavian creative scene. Also, he has portrayed Danish fashion designer Henrik Vibskov and many other creatives while he lived in Denmark. As a street photographer in Reykjavik his reputation is widely respectable.

Omar Sverisson’s portrait in Balloon Series No 2 depicts internationally recognised Icelandic visual artist Snorri Ásmundsson. Snorri has a long history of politically provocative gestures in his art where he pushes the limits of public participation in democracy. Like in 2004, Ásmundsson was running for president of Iceland as an art experiment.

The Balloon Series has become one of the most iconic images featured in Helsinki Photo Festival’s activities of 2018. Omar Sverisson’s Balloon Series has been exhibited in Helsinki and at the touring Nordic Village expose at Pelt Fotofestival 2021 in Belgium.
