This is a three day long photography workshop (August 24-26) with a Norwegian visual artist Stig Marlon Weston, held at the Häkälä building in Kansallismuseo / The National Museum of Finland. (Access from Töölönkatu 1).

Day 1 - The workshop leader, Stig Marlon Weston will start with an introductory talk about the presentation. He will present his own photographic work. The participants will then follow and do their presentations as well as discuss their work. Homework assignments are given.
Day 2 - Home assignments will be presented. A guest speaker, Henri Airo will be introduced and he will run a photography presentation of his own work. The workshop participants present their work to Henri and discuss it together. Homework assignments are given.
Day 3 - Home assignments will be presented. A new guest speaker, Nita Vera will be introduced and she will run a photography presentation of her own work. The workshop participants present their work to Nita and discuss it together. The workshop will end by summing up people's experience from presenting and thinking about their own work.
Requirements for participants: Each participant must bring a portfolio of approximately 10-20 printed images from a series that is finished or in a process, that they want to discuss. For homework assignments, participants must have access to a camera and be able to present some new images, either on print or screen, every day.
Please note: This workshop is limited to 10 people maximum. In case of low attendance (less than 3 participants), this event will be canceled.

Henri Airo is a Finish visual artist working with experimental forms of photography and other lens based mediums, text and archival material. His work evolves around presenting perspectives on constructions within society and communities and his practice stems from an upbringing in international and socially aware environments. The goal of his work is for the viewer to see something familiar from a strange yet refined perspective. Through the practice of visualising large social structures and phenomena Henri creates deeper understanding by challenging people to be more observant and vigilant about their opinions and surroundings. The artist experiments with a wide range of different methods and materials depending on his subject matter and believes that visuality should reinforce the message and significance of the work.

Nita Vera is a visual artist of Chilean and Finnish descent, combining photography, text, cinematography, installation and book formats in her work. Her subject matter deals with questions around the human condition and relationships. Absurdism and humour is her way to treat intense themes she explores such as family relationships and the lightness of our modern liquid era using an intentional way of staging scenes as a visual element. She approaches photography as a director of scenes exploring the relation between fiction and reality. A major source of inspiration in her work comes from literature, theatre and cinema adopting methods, theories and concepts into her visual work. Her work has been shown in solo exhibitions at the Finnish Museum of Photography, Art Center Mältinranta and the photography festival Encontros da Imagem in Braga, Portugal as well as in group exhibitions in Fotografisk Center in Copenhagen, Kunsthalle in Helsinki, Kalmar Konstmuseum, Oslo Kunstforening, Benaki Museum in Athens among others. Her first book ‘What Love Weighs’ was published in 2015. In 2016 her artist’s book ‘Spatial Practices’ was nominated for the Nordic Dummy Award and Unseen Dummy Award.
