DILLA DJALIL-DANIEL "Dashed Hopes II" (2016). Edition: 30+2 AP. Signed and numbered. Certificate of Authenticity included. Hahnemühle Rag 308 g. Available in 2 sizes.

Global Peace Award-winning photographer Dilla Djalil-Daniel is dealing with the environmental issues caused by land exploitation, narrating the stories of human and non-human lives afflicted by the actions of mankind in Indonesia. The selected images of orangutans are saturated with love, raising empathetic feelings towards the animals and triggering thoughts concerning our environmental actions. The exhibition provides an impressive visual insight into the issues facing animals and the dedicated individuals that care about their welfare and conservation prospects.

Dilla Dlalil Daniel was born in 1966 in Jakarta where she lives today. She was given a camera at the age of nine with which she photographed her dogs. As she had to give up her dream of becoming a vet she studied English literature, working for an advertizing agency for a while. Workshops with the well-known photographers Alex Webb and Peter Turnley turned her into a ‘workshop junkie’. She attended such workshops in Istanbul, Buenos Aires, Chiang Mai, South Africa, and on Antigua. She started to admire NGOs – and above all she has been expelled from her comfort zone. Wherever she went she was looking for animal sanctuaries. Be it the elephant hospital in Thailand, be it a rescue centre for maltreated donkeys in Nepal.

“Especially peaceful and touching example of people trying to make a difference.” – The Guardian “An impressive visual insight into the issues facing animals.” – Ian Singleton, Director of Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme
