Pottery classes are held on Wednesdays at 4.30 PM to 7.30 PM over a 12-week term (Sept. 25th - Dec. 11th).

At UDUMBARA Pottery (est. 1994) we use wild, red clay from the small village of Kultela in Somero, Southwestern Finland. The material gives the products a wonderfully rich earthy character. By choosing this local raw material, Eva wants to emphasize the unique and ecological value of this seldom-used local clay. Also, as the sun gives off far more energy than we need to power everything on earth, our studio & kiln are powered by solar energy.

If you enjoy it and you love making things with your hands with clay, then it is worth trying it out. Like piano playing, it looks like fun and looks easy. It takes a long time to get proficient at it. We make Flowerpots, as wild clay is ideally suited for it. Also, the first pottery experiments are usually bit wonky, but look cute when you plant something on it. Part of wild clay planters beauty is their tendency to beautify with age as they weather and absorb mineral salts from the soil.

Refunds and Cancellations, General Class Information. Please read this in detail before the purchase. Thank you.

Important: Important: Please register to your classes in good time, as class size is limited (just 6 ) and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. For serial ticket buyers, it is up to you to check availability on dates and inform Eva (eva.spoof@gmail.com), we fill the first come first serve bases. These serial tickets are only valid for Pottery Wheel Wednesday, (Sept. 25th - Dec. 11th). No refunds will be given once a workshop has happened and you have not registered to the classes while there are still available spaces.

Ensure you can attend the class before paying the fee. Refunds can only be considered if there is at least 2 weeks notice (for any reasons, sickness, etc.). In most cases, we will be unable to offer a refund unless there is a significant waiting list and we can fill the place/s. And our apologies, but because of the limited attendees, we need to maintain full attendance in all classes, and that is why we have the exact and strict cancellation policy.

A full refund will be given if your workshop is canceled by the Udumbara Studio & Gallery for any reason.

Keep in mind; The pottery wheel takes time and patience to master, and beginners may become frustrated early on.
The pottery wheel and ceramics studio, in general, can be a dirty, messy place. No matter what precautions you take, you will end up with clay on your clothes and/or shoes at some point. Eva will provide an apron to help protect your legs from splatter, but please wear clothes you are ok with getting dirty. Wild clay has lots of iron, and it can stain light fabrics. It is best to wear old loose-fitting pants. Long nails can cause accidental gouges in the piece you're working on. If you have long hair, plan on having a way to secure it.

Working at the studio with Kultela wild clay is truly "slow design," and pottery studios big kiln is only fired a few times per season. It also takes much more time and patient when working with wild clay. We will inform you when flowerpots are ready, so remember to be patient.

We will not be responsible for any unclaimed pottery after two months of the date of when they are ready, and you have been informed.

Thank You and Welcome to UDUMBARA!
