Product description

Relax and recharge at a weekend retreat. Welcome to our wild clay planter pot — Mindful pottery retreat at UDUMBARA Pottery studio. You don't need prior pottery experience. We will have a small group of only 6. The workshop starts Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM and Sunday from 10 AM to 3. PM

Osaamme myös suomea, tervetuloa. Vi talar också svenska, välkommen.

We start and end both days with 25 minutes of silent sitting (meditation). Quiet sitting has been helping people find inner peace and balance for hundreds of years. To be fully aware, at the moment, right here, right now.

UDUMBARA pottery (est. 1994) submerges you in a real pottery studio with an experienced artisan/ceramic artist (Eva Spoof).

Saturday, we will practice throwing pottery on the pottery wheel, and Sunday, we will learn trimming and decoration ( stamps, engravings, we don't use colors or glazes). When you make pottery with Kultela wild clay, you dont get a planter pot; you will also get 100% transparency, local clay, and a real piece of Finland. We use solar choice energy at our studio and kiln to reduce the high carbon footprint in pottery making.

Silent meditation techniques are used to calm the mind and enhance concentration. Develop a "quality over quantity" personal meditation/connection practice. I encourage you to challenge yourself to learn a skill and consider your values in ethics and sustainability as a maker.

Learning a skill and working with your hands with wild clay brings mindfulness and comfort to your life; at Udumbara studio, we are teeming with international professionals looking to de-stress, unplug, and socialize; with others.

The fee includes all materials up to 15 kg of Kultela clay, guidance, + firing of four (4 ) planters.

We will have a "POTLUCK" lunch on both days; Eva will serve salad + bread, and please bring one delicacy you like to share with the salads.

Important: Please register for your classes in good time, as class size is limited (just 6) and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Read General Class information in detail before purchasing. Please understand that UDUMBARA is a tiny artist-owned and artist-operated pottery studio. Once you decide to book a retreat, please commit to it.

If you have long hair, plan on having a way to secure it.

Like piano playing, the pottery wheel takes time and patience to master, and beginners may become frustrated early on. It will require perseverance, patience, independent doing, and thinking. There will be disappointments, which are integral to learning, growing, and improving.

Working with local Kultela clay is a "slow design," The studio's big pottery kiln is only fired a few times per season. It takes time and patience when working with wild clay. We will inform you when the planter pots are ready with a Google calendar message; please be patient.

We will not be responsible for unclaimed pottery after four (4) months of the retreat. Unclaimed pots are disposed of, sent back to Kultea to be crushed into grog (for sculpture clay), or sold with 100% of the proceeds to the Unicef "empty bowl" fund.

We will happily send your products to your home; This will be charged postage-free. When the pots are ready, we will send you an information Google calendar. . Welcome, and thank you for reading all away here!
