Simple Peace Pottery wheel workshops — Keramiikka kurssit Private workshops – Team events
For up to six participants. Relax and recharge. Find your center by throwing on a potter's wheel.
Welcome to join our wild clay planter pot — a 2-day private Mindful pottery retreat. You don't need prior pottery experience.
Osaamme myös suomea, tervetuloa. Vi talar också svenska, välkommen.
At UDUMBARA Helsinki (est. 1994), you are submerged in a real pottery studio with an experienced artisan/ceramic artist (Eva Spoof).
We start and end both days with 25 minutes of silent sitting (meditation). Meditation has been helping people find inner peace and balance for hundreds of years. To be fully aware, at the moment, right here, right now. Silent meditation techniques are used to calm the mind and enhance concentration.
Pottery invites us to release expectations and attachments. When we release these energies, we release judgment and perfectionism and focus less on the outcome, allowing us to be more present and enjoy the amazing grounding touch of wild clay and the process!
We practice pottery and letting go. Eva will also encourage you to challenge yourself to learn and consider your values in ethics and sustainability as a maker. We make planter pots. With Kultela clay, you dont get just a clay planter pot; You will also get 100% transparency, local clay, and a real piece of Finland. We use solar choice energy at our studio and kiln to reduce the high carbon footprint in pottery making.
Working with your hands with wild clay brings mindfulness and comfort to your life; at Udumbara studio, we are looking to de-stress, unplug, and socialize; with others.
In the 2-day workshop, we go through the whole planter pottery-making process. On the first day, we will prepare the clay and throw pots, and on the second day, we will learn trimming and decoration ( stamps, engravings, we don't use colors or glazes). When you make pottery with Kultela wild clay, you dont get a planter pot; you will also get 100% transparency, Kultela clay from Ojala's field, and a real piece of Finland.
The fee includes all materials up to 15 kg Kultela clay per person, tools, and firing for four planter pots per person; VAT 24% is included in the price.
Full payment is required for booking your session. You can check the available workshop times at: https://udumbara.youcanbook.me (copy/paste, Book a 1-day Mindful pottery retreat two days after each other for a two-day workshop. Inquires; Eva.Spoof @gmail.com, 050 5249192.

GOOD TO KNOW:
Please, wear loose clothes and shoes; you're ok with getting dirty. Kultela wild clay has iron in it, which can stain light-colored clothing. Long nails can cause accidental gouges in the piece you're working on. If you have long hair, plan on having a way to secure it.
Like piano playing, the pottery wheel takes time and patience to master, and beginners may become frustrated early on. It will require perseverance, patience, and independent thinking. Beginners do not make big pots.
Working with local Kultela clay is a "slow design," The studio's big pottery kiln is only fired a few times per season. It takes time and patience when working with wild clay. There will be disappointments, and not all the work will make it. We will inform you when the planter pots are ready with a Google calendar message; please be patient. We will pack your pieces in a bag or box, and one of you can pick them up.
We will be happy to send your products to you; this will be charged postage-free.
We will send you a Google calendar invitation for the workshop. It can be shared with the attendees.
We will not be responsible for unclaimed pottery after two months of being ready, and you have been informed or three months after the workshop.
The recommended starting time is 10 AM to 4 PM.
