Product description

Join us on Happy Hour for a fun night of 'Wheel and Wine.' This is one night to try out pottery; beginners welcome and encouraged!

Grab your friends and come to Udumbara Studio & Gallery in Kallio, for a unique and different night out. At UDUMBARA, you are submerged in a real pottery atelier with an experienced ceramic artist (Eva Spoof). In this two hour class 5 PM to 7 PM, you get to try out the potter's wheel.

We will get a chance to try out a potter's wheel and get your hands dirty, while Eva helps you to make your own unique pot. We provide everything you need. All you have to do is come ready to have fun together, enjoy a glass of wine and unwind. Remember to wear clothes that can get dirty (this includes shoes).

We have four potters wheels in the studio. On one wheel, everyone takes a turn with Eva (the experienced potter); she will make sure that everyone tries on the pottery wheel will be successful. One the other wheels, you can test your skills on your own. It is also fun to observe others and to figure out the pottery making together.

We make two pieces (600g) of clay ready for you to use. If you want, you get a lovely wild clay flowerpot you have created to remember the occasion. Adults 21 years and + are welcome to Eva's Happy hour -workshops.

All the above are for two hours; This includes tuition, materials and you get to choose one of your flowerpots for trimming, finishing, firing + 24 % VAT costs — any of your additional pots or creations will be finished for an additional fee of 10 €. Class size is limited (8 )and will be filled on a first-come,first-served basis.

Keep in mind; Like piano playing, wheel throwing looks fun and easy. It takes a long time to get proficient at it. We make flowerpots, as wild clay is ideally suited for it. Also, the first pottery experiments are usually bit wonky, but look cute when you plant something on it.

At UDUMBARA, we make sustainable ceramics. We use solar energy, and we work with wild, local natural clay from the small village of Kultela in Somero, Southwestern Finland. The seldom-used material gives the products a wonderfully rich character.

*Please note, once you leave your pieces the night of the workshop, they'll be fired in our kilns. Once fired, they will last thousands of years. If you don't intend to return for it, let us know. As after they are fired, we're unable to recycle the clay. We are happy to give you a small Udumbara flowerpot instead if you wish, to have a little memory of the occasion.

Wild clay flowerpots are not glazed, and that's why they are ideally suited for a plant's physiological needs. Part of their beauty is their tendency to beautify with age as they weather and absorb mineral salts from the soil. When you make your planters in Kultela clay, you don't just get handmade pottery; you get a piece of Finland too.

Welcome to our Studio & Gallery. UDUMBARA based in Kallio (Berghäll) "the creative" district of Helsinki, just next to hip SAUNA ARLA and good restaurants or bars nearby for you to continue into the evening if you wish. Eva can guide the workshop in English, Finnish, and Swedish.

Working at the studio with Kultela clay is truly slow design as the pottery big kiln is only fired a few times per season, and it takes much more time and patience when working with wild clay. We will inform you when they are ready, so remember to be patient. We will be happy to send the ready-made products to your home; this will be charged extra.

Please be sure to read and understand our refund policy before registering, and there are no refunds or date transfers for the Happy Hour workshop once you purchase a spot, including gift certificates (for any reasons, sick, etc). Spaces can be passed on to friends or family (21 +). Our apologies, but because of the limited capacity, we need to maintain full attendance in all classes, and that's why we have the exact and strict cancellation policy.

No refunds will be given once a workshop has happened. A full refund will be given if your workshop is canceled d by The Udumbara Studio & Gallery for any reason. Udumbara will not be responsible for any unclaimed pottery after one month of the date of when they are ready.

The pottery wheel and ceramics studio, in general, can be a dirty, messy place. No matter what precautions you take, you will end up with clay on your clothes and/or shoes at some point. We will provide an apron to help protect your legs from splatter, but please wear clothes you're ok with getting dirty. Wild clay has lots of iron, and it can stain light fabrics. It is best to wear old loose-fitting pants. Long nails can cause accidental gouges in the piece you're working on. Nail polish will wear off almost immediately when working with clay. If you have long hair, plan on having a way to secure it.

Thank You and Welcome to UDUMBARA!
