The first lesson, two hours long, is dedicated to learning to prepare the clay and throwing the pots; the second lesson, is for trimming the thrown pots. These pots will also be glazed and fired twice. We charge 5 € for firing the per flowerpot (one firing) and 10 € per glazed cup (two firings and glazing) cup etc.

At UDUMBARA we make sustainable ceramics We use solar energy, and we work with wild, local natural clay from the small village of Kultela in Somero, Southwestern Finland. The material gives the products a wonderfully rich character.
Wild clay flowerpots are not glazed, and that's why are ideally suited for a plant's physiological needs. Part of their beauty is their tendency to beautify with age as they weather and absorb mineral salts from the soil.
When you make your planters in Kultela clay, you don't just get handmade pottery; you get a piece of Finland too.
General Class Information Please read this in detail before the purchase. Thank you.
Working at the studio with Kultela clay is truly slow design as the potteries big kiln is only fired a few times per season, and it takes much more time and patient when working with wild clay. Wild clay is unpredictable, so we can't guarantee that all your works will make it (trough drying firing) but we will do our best and take it very slowly to help the progress. We will inform you when they are ready, so remember to be patient. Udumbara will not be responsible for any unclaimed pottery after two months of the date of when they are ready. We will be happy to send the ready make products to your home; this will be charged extra.
Full payment required on booking your session. If you find are unable to attend your booking, and it’s more than seven days in advance, we can offer a transfer to another date or a refund. Refunds are not available if cancellations are made within seven days of an agreed time. One half of the course fee will be held (for any reasons sickness etc.). No refunds within three days of workshop date. No refunds will be given once a workshop has happened.
A full refund will be given if your workshop is canceled d by The Udumbara Studio & Gallery for any reason.
Please keep in mind; The pottery wheel takes time and patience to master, and many beginners become frustrated early on.
The pottery wheel and ceramics studio, in general, can be a dirty, messy place. No matter what precautions you take, you will end up with clay on your clothes and/or shoes at some point. I'll provide an apron to help protect your legs from splatter, but please wear clothes you're ok with getting dirty. Wild clay has lots of iron, and it can stain light fabrics. It is best to wear old loose-fitting pants. Long nails can cause accidental gouges in the piece you're working on. Nail polish will wear off almost immediately when working with most clays. If you have long hair, plan on having a way to secure it. We will not be responsible for any unclaimed pottery after two months of the date of when they are ready, and you have been informed.
Thank You and Welcome to UDUMBARA!
