At UDUMBARA (est. 1994) is Earth-friendly pottery; we use wild, red clay from the small village of Kultela in Somero, Southwestern Finland. The material gives the products a wonderfully rich earthy character. By choosing this local raw material, Eva wants to emphasize the unique and ecological value of this little used local clay. Wild clay planters are ideally suited for plants physiological needs. Part of their beauty is their tendency to beautify with age as they weather and absorb mineral salts from the soil.

Also, as the sun gives off far more energy than we need to power everything on earth, our studio & kiln are powered by solar energy.

UDUMBARA Studio & Gallery is in Kallio (Berghäll)"the creative" district of Helsinki, just next to hip SAUNA ARLA and restaurants or bars nearby for you to continue into the evening if you wish. Easy access with tram no. 1, 3, 6, 7, 8, and 9. UDUMBARA keramiikkaa ground floor shop entrance next to staircase C, between Cafe Cardemumma and ARLA sauna sign.

And our apologies, but because of the limited capacity, we need to maintain full attendance in all classes, and that's why we have the exact and strict cancellation policy.

Please ensure you can attend the class before paying the fee because refunds can only be considered if there is at least 2 weeks notice (for any reasons sickness etc.). In most cases, we will be unable to offer a refund unless there is a significant waiting list and we can fill the place/s. Working at the studio with Kultela clay is "slow design," and big pottery kiln is only fired a few times per season. It also takes much more time and patient when working with wild clay. We will inform you when flowerpots are ready, so remember to be patient.

Please keep in mind; The pottery wheel takes time and patience to master, and many beginners become frustrated early on.
The pottery wheel and ceramics studio, in general, can be a dirty, messy place. No matter what precautions you take, you will end up with clay on your clothes and/or shoes at some point. I'll provide an apron to help protect your legs from splatter, but please wear clothes you're ok with getting dirty. Wild clay has lots of iron, and it can stain light fabrics. It is best to wear old loose-fitting pants. Long nails can cause accidental gouges in the piece you're working on. Nail polish will wear off almost immediately when working with most clays. If you have long hair, plan on having a way to secure it. We will not be responsible for any unclaimed pottery after two months of the date of when they are ready, and you have been informed. Thank You and Welcome to UDUMBARA!
