This album includes kantele sounds from 13th-century Novgorod, Saarijärvi Parkatinniemi, and Mahlu, as well as sounds of Otsihumba from Namibia. Rauno Nieminen is a third-generation kantele player and builder who has been playing and crafting kanteles for 47 years. Heikki Lindgren is a Helsinki-based ambient music artist who incorporates traditional Finnish instruments into his music alongside electronics. Together, the duo has been exploring the sound of the kantele.
